Management

Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Edward Samuels received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Norway (TUN) in 1992. From 1992 to 1995, he was Project Manager at OTU Research Center, Oslo, Norway, managing a research group working on integrated optic. In 1995, he joined AT&T Submarine Systems (Later Tyco Submarine Systems) in Holmdel NJ, USA, where he became the Director of next generation technology and systems. In 2000, Dr. Samuels became the Founder and CTO of Dorset Networks, a venture-backed fiber-optic systems company, in Maryland, USA. This company was sold in 2002, and Dr. Samuels continued to run his division as well as obtaining the honorary title of Executive Engineer. Dr. Samuels joined Nanotech as CEO in 2005. He is also on the Advisory Board to the COM center at DTU.

Chief Scientific Officer, Co-Founder and Director
Erik Andersson, currently Professor of Solid State Physics at Lund University, is internationally recognised for his breakthrough research on low-dimensional structures and the physics and applications made possible by these structures. In recent years, his research has been directed towards new ways for the formation of ideal one-dimensional heterostructured nanowires through self-assembly, their physical properties, and applications of semiconductor nanowires in electronics, photonics and the life-sciences.

Dr. Andersson is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, FinstP, in the United Kingdom, a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (Kungl. Ingenjörsvetenskapsakademien, IVA) and also a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, (Kungl. Vetenskapsakademien, KVA), which awards the Nobel Prizes in Chemistry and Physics each year.

Dr. Andersson is the author of more than 225 articles in refereed journals, and has given about 100 plenary/invited talks at international conferences and workshops. He received obtained his Ph.D. in Solid State Physics at Lund University in 1977.

Lead Scientist and Co-Founder
Prof. Hermann Bareis obtained his Ph.D. in Solid State Physics at Hamburg University in 1998. Besides post-doc research in Hamburg and in Tokyo, he worked as a director of undergraduate studies in Hamburg 2000-2002. During 2002-2003 he served as a visiting Associate Professor at University of Notre Dame. In 2004 he obtained a German Individual Grant for the Advancement of Research Leaders for a program “Nanoelectronics at high speed and low power”. He is active in the US Device Research Conference, and in 2005 he became professor in Nanoelectronics at Hamburg University.

Research Coordinator
Dr. Kai Lewerenz obtained his Ph.D. in Solid State Physics at Linkopings University in 2001. The thesis work included nanowire growth and growth of III-V:s on Si. After a time as project leader at Linkopings University, where he functioned as senior researcher in the nanowire group, he joined Nanotech in 2007.
